    | Hi everyone, need opinions/advice on what to feed our new kitten |

    | |
We just added a 9 week old calico to our house today. Her owner moved and left behind a mama cat and litter of kittens (all now have good homes).
I have an adult cat that eats wet food, can the kitten eat the same wet food? I don't feed my cat dry food and don't want to give the new kitty dry kitten food. Do they even make wet food for kittens?

    | 1. Yes, they make wet food for kittens... |

    | | I'd go with the kitten formula of whatever you are feeding your adult cat. What brand of cat food are you feeding your adult cat? You should feed kitten formula to your kitten for up to one year. After a year, they can eat adult food. |

    | 3. your kitten can certainly eat the same wet food as the adult. |

    | | You might want to add some extra tidbits such as meat, poultry, fish, cooked egg or even cottage cheese for extra protein to grow on.
Good for you for skipping the dry food, which to me is the equivalent of potato chips for people--tastes good but has little nutrient value. My cats only get it when we leave them overnight.

And here's why: my daughter left her cat for three nights and left out both wet and dry food. Well, he ate the dry food first and by the time he ate the wet food it had spoiled. So when she got back he had the "runs" and needed a trip to the vet. :(

    | 4. My new baby (3 mons old) eats whatever she wants |

    | | I have 3 adult cats: 1 is on Innova Evo, 1 is on Science Diet W/D for his diabetes and the third eats both-depending what she is in the mood for. Now, I bought the kitten her own natural kitten food, but made the mistake of putting it next to the Evo. Hence, she eats whatever she wants (in that room anyways). The other half of the house is diabetic domain and when she's in that room, she eats both the wet and dry (depending on what scraps the older cat has left). I have noticed that she doesn't react well to wet kitten (I bought a can of IAMS kitten as a treat when I first brought her home) or wet adult food (stinky, runny poops), so I try to grab the old cat's wet food before she can get to it. So, I guess my rambling has lead to "no" on wet food for kitten. |

    | 5. Have you taken a list of the |

    | | Edited on Fri Jul-10-09 12:08 AM by CC ingredients in Evo to your vet and ask if it was ok for the diabetic? The reason I ask is that is what the vet put my diabetic cat on. One of them was off insulin after 6 months, the other will be getting insulin for life. The one refused to eat W/D so the vet and I went searching and ended up with the Evo cat & kitten canned for main meals and the dry to snack on through out the day. Now all my kitties are eating Evo so hopefully the younger ones will avoid diabetes and they all get to stay together and own the whole house.

RayofHope- I would recommend Evo cat & kitten wet food with maybe the Evo dry as a treat. It has been great for all 5 of my kitties.

    | 6. I tried the diabetic on Evo |

    | | gave him horrible runs that took months to recover from. I was really surprised, but I've decided that he's just too old to try on new foods. |

    | 8. At least he is doing well and likes |

    | | the W/D. I remembering worrying that mine wouldn't like any of the foods that were ok for him. He is way to picky though none of the other cats are. I would try the kitten on the Evo though since it is good for kittens too and much healthier than the normal store bought foods. Somewhere Lorien had a good thread on foods for the furkids.

    | 7. Thanks for giving her a good home! |

    | | Don't you just love it when people move and leave their animals behind? (Sarcasm, of course).
I know some people are in dire straights with this economy, etc., but in my mind, I could never do that.

Thank you for taking this kiddo, and I'm betting you played a part in getting the other kittens placed - so another "thank you" for that.
