Is there a way to control shedding?

or at least gain some control over it? Is brushing the only option or are their other things that can be done?

I have 3 short hair kitties and one of them sheds far more than the other two.

1. There's a kind of comb called the Furminator that gets a lot of loose fur off.

It works pretty well, if you can get the cat to hold still for a really thorough combing.
