DU cat people: can you tell a thunderstorm is brewing by the way your cat(s) act?

Cat fur is a static magnet.

1. they wash behind their ears.

I think it may be in response to humidity, but they wash their faces and then keep on going until they are washing behind their ears.

2. Mine seem to be pretty oblivious.

If it thunders they twitch their ears a bit, but otherwise they are unfazed.

if there's a particularly loud boom, she may look outside but other than that couldn't care less about storms.

sits at the storm door and watches the storm. I'm talkin 'bout a cat who lets me vacuum her with the biggest and
loudest cleaner in the neighborhood.

No storms do not bother my kitty nor my big bad Rottie.

7. My cat didn't give a rip until she turned 14

Now at the first sound of thunder, she comes out and sits on my feet, meowing. When the storm really hits, she dives under the bed, a shivering pile of misery.

I think the old gal is getting a little deaf and doesn't hear it as thunder so much as noise within the house, if that makes any sense.

I can't think of anything else that would have provoked a change. When she was younger, it took a pitchforks and hammer handles kind of hail storm to get her attention.

8. Do dogs count?

I have one that is scared to death of thunderstorms and 1 who doesn't really care. But I can always tell.

9. The cats are oblivious. On the other hand, the dog is nervous wreck.

She goes into the bathroom and hides behind the toilet until the storm has passed.

10. There is a reported tornado only about 20 miles from here right now

along with severe thunderstorm warnings. The cats aren't twitching a whisker.
