Cat put to sleep for peeing

My partner just found out that his parents had their kitteh put to sleep for peeing in the house. They claimed they tried to alter the behavior and considered putting up for adoption but for some horrible reason they opted to kill it.

We are having a tough time with it. The cat never really bonded with us so it is not that, it is the thought that his parents could do such a thing. WE would have tried to keep it if it had come down to it, but they did not say anything until his mom just called him crying while his dad was at the vet having her put down.

Ignorance and laziness leads many pet owners to do such awful things. I'm still sickened by the fact that vets will kill an animal simply because their owners feel inconvenienced. My dad put down one of his cats just because it had an upper respiratory infection. He didn't want to deal with the medication. I wish that all pet owners would view their animals as members of the family and work to resolve simple issues (peeing outside of the little box is usually easily solved) but alas, many are too lazy and self absorbed.

The only light I can see in this sad story is the fact that the "second generation" (i.e., your partner) has a more compassionate heart than the parents. At least the parents raised their child well.

Again - I'm sorry. It's hard to hear something like this.

4. oh this is so upsetting

As a matter of fact my husband and I are facing the prospect of having to put one of our beloved dogs down soon. He has a difficult time getting around, his appetite has decreased, and he's beginning to lose control of his bladder sometimes. Yet I can hardly make a move to face the finality of this beloved companion. On his good days he drags himself out of bed and follows us down the hall and will often sit and place his head on one of our laps so he can have his head scratched over and over again. The fact that someone would put their animal down for peeing just hurts me to my very soul.
