| do dogs get hairballs? my bc has a bad cough tonight |
|
He sounds just like a cat does when trying to hock up a hairball. He coughs deeply a dozen times and then does that GAAACK thing as if the hairball is right there.
It started today.
He's eating, drinking, and peeing/pooing and playful. Not drooling. No runny nose, no eye discharge.
Any clues??

| 1. Sometimes they just have something in their throat but if it continues I would take |

him to the Vet as coughing is many times heart related. An X-ray and meds is usually what happens in this regard.

| 2. Yes dogs can have hairballs |
|
Isn't common but it can happen.
I have a long-haired dog with allergies. Not at all uncommon for him to hack up a hairball especially if his skin allergies are causing him to do a lot of licking. He will also hack up the occasional hairball even when his allergies are well under control.

| 3. well, feline hairball remedy seems to have cured it! |
|
I read on the web that it might work. He's had three doses of it, and the cough is essentially gone. It was real bad that first day. I haven't heard but one brief episode today.
So apparently hairy dogs get hairballs! I have to brush the sofa every day to get great handsful of his hair off, and I imagine he's eating some too.
