At 6: 25 am this morning I was at my foot doctor to pick up Orthodox, as I was walking back to my car this beautiful full Pit Bull comes running toward me. She looked very healthy but her eye lids were red and she looked very tired.
I was a bit startled but I looked at her and she was wagging her body and smiling (it seems she was happy to see someone who wasn't afraid of her). So she came right to me and we looked at each other I gave her a pet on the head and opened up the back door of my car. She jumped right in and seemed relieved and laid down. :loveya:
Now keep in mind where she ran up to me is a very high traffic area, it's amazing she wasn't hurt or worse.
Anyhooo....so I have to go back in the foot doctors office and ask for a phone book to find the nearest vet. I call a vet that's close and they are closed (because it's so early in the morning) but they give me the number to the emergency vet. So I call the emergency vet and ask them if they have a scanner.....:woohoo: ....they do.
So off we go to the Emergency Vet to get her scanned, she was a very good girl. So we get there and they scan her and call the owner.
So here is the conversation between the vet tech and the owner
Vet Tech: Hi, a lady has just brought your dog in (dogs name) and we wanted to let you know she is here..
Owner: Pause.....my dog (dogs Name)?
Vet Tech: Yea she's right here right now....
Owner: Oh my God she has been missing for a year!! :wow:
Vet Tech: Well we are bout 30 miles away
Owner: We are on our way to get her!! :applause:
The Vet tech thanked me and as I was walking out the pretty pit wanted to go home with me...... (I believe my partner said do not come home with another dog....or something like that-we have two.)
So apparently she has been with someone who had been taking care of her for the last year and she is very healthy. I just hope that her original owners are good people and take really good care of her.
Of course now I will be worried about her...sigh..

4. What a great story! Now I have tears in my eyes..... |
|
Thank you for rescuing that sweet girl and making it possible for her to get back home. Good thing she was chipped - both of my dogs are from shelters and they are micro-chipped.

So I should have left my name and number and I forgot to. I will try to call back to catch the same tech that worked that morning and see if she had good vibes from the owners. I don't know if they keep the information but I will check.
She was amazing though!!:loveya:

11. Aren't chips great. I found an injured dog last year who had been missing for months. |
|
Her owners were so happy to find her. They reimbursed all of her medical bills to me and gave me a check for $200 to donate to rescue. Some days are diamonds!

13. Maddie, our neighbors have a pit bull and don't take good care of him at all... |
|
He is such a wonderful, smart dog it breaks my heart to see how he is neglected. I am happy you did what you did to bring some happiness to everyone involved.

14. What a great story! Good on you for helping her! |
|
Coincidentally, friends of mine had a similar story this weekend about their finding two dogs while at a national park -- the poor dogs were thirsty and hungry and tired and thanks to the friends, they were treated and the owner was found.
Heart-warming!
