| Cats and the vernal equinox... |
|
Weather is getting better; the wheel of the seasons is noticeably turning towards Spring. Snow is rapidly melting off, and in the morning I can hear the ska-waonk! of the neighborhood's breeding pheasant pair (who sometimes hang out in MY backyard!). Definite indication of the warmer part of the year, this...:bounce:
The boys all go out fairly early in the morning now (about 6Am) for neighborhood patrol and reconnaisance...and who knows, possibly the feline version of meeting in the diner for coffee and gossip/info exchange to start their day.
The sun is high enough to shine on the hood of my car, and D'Artagnan levitates onto it, looking like a mountain cat from a Nature series...except for his coloration. He s-t-r-e-t-c-h-e-s, then sits on the hood of the car with his tail curled elegantly around his feet as he catches early morning sun and surveys the territory.
It strikes me what a fine thing it must be; to be a healthy young cat, coming into all the first strength, coordination, curiousity and intelligence of adulthood in the Spring...
:hi:No worries about 'spring fever'... impossible for any of my cats; they're all fixed, current on their shots, and sporting microchips.

Haha. When we lived in a house, my cats liked to go in the morning. It was as though they wanted to check out their territory and make sure nothing happened to it overnight. They came in probably 15-20 minutes later. I used the same word as you -- they were going out on patrol.

| 2. My cats go out early, though I usually make them stay inside |

until it gets light outside. They like to hunt for mice, voles, and wood rats. Later on, when it gets too hot, they'll just wait for the lizards to come out. Sorry to say they are natural born killers.

| 3. My cat isn't huddled in a miserable heap on the electric blanket now. |

She's up, she's around, and she's bringing me her favorite toy when she wants to play. She's an indoor kitty, an old lady, but it's fun to see the kitten come back out this time of year.
She's usually up around 5 AM, head poked through the bedroom curtains, looking for birdies to chirrup at.
