| Know of any virus that causes mouth sores in cats? |
|
The week before last I noticed my outside cat, Teddy Pepper, wasn't eating like he usually does. I tried to entice him with a treat and he didn't want that either. A day or so later I noticed he was smacking his mouth and his chin was soaking wet with drool.
I took him to the vet and they said he had to ulcerated spots in his mouth: one on the roof of his mouth and one on the tip of his tongue. The vet said he probably got in to something caustic in the yard. Wet food and pain meds helped and a week later he is eating like normal.
Yesterday I saw that one of my inside cats, Abbie, was acting the same way; not eating and smacking his mouth. I gave him some wet food and he ate that but doesn't want anything else. Not even his favorite treat, Pit 'r Pats.
Teddy Pepper like to come in the house when I get home from work and sometimes he will run up and eat a little out of Abbie's bowl. I guess that is how whatever-this-is got transferred.
I was wondering if any of ya'll have had an experience with this.

been vaccinated? The calicivirus can cause mouth sores. I'd call their vet and see what she says. http://www.animalhealthchannel.com/calicivirus/symptoms.shtml
