Both of my kids have dogs that shed terribly. One is a Yellow Lab, the other a Burnese Mountain dog.

They have tried all kinds of brushes, combs, you name it, to remove all the excess fur.

They have both bought this Furminator and love it. The dogs are shedding far less and it clean out all that dead ot loose fur under the topcoat. Best pet care tool yet.

1. You want to be careful with this toy...

I test-drove it on my Super-Shedders Wimsey and Esme.

They both loved it (hey, it was BRUSHING...sort of) but you gotta know when to quit.
I used it on Esme and managed to denude a spot on her back of everything but the top coat. She had a 'comb-over' for a few weeks where you could look down through the black guard hairs and see her skin.

The awn and down coat are growing back nicely, and Esme forgave me...but still...:dunce:

I've spoken to the people at Petsmart about this, and they told me you need to limit the time you spend using this on your cat, since kitty-fur is 'designed' to release much more easily.

Had a demo of this with Wimsey the other day...

He got into a fight with the neighbor cat Ms. Kitty (with whom he usually gets along quite well)...
and I could smell it. Figured this meant he had blocked anal glands again. :yoiks:
Wimsey doesn't normally pick fights, and the last time there was this combination (Wimsey fighting and this particular stink) Wimsey's anal glands were seriously clogged, poor baby.:hurts: No wonder he was 'owly' (as my Sainted Vet describes it).

Anyway, I've been spending at LEAST 10 minutes every night with Wimsey, the boar's bristle brush and the lavender water, since he loves this so much.
LOTS of loose fur comes out, he looks sparkling, and he doesn't seem to shed quite so much...until I took him to the vet.
I was COVERED with white cat hair...he'd employed his Kitty Superpower^TM of Projectile Shedding.
Good thing fur is soft and not pointy-tipped, or I'd be in a WORLD of hurt is all I'm gonna say.

I think he has another Kitty Superpower^TM...
no matter how much fur he loses from brushing, shedding, etc....he instantly re-grows it and never has any less fur than he starts out with. :hide::yoiks:

2. I got a Furminator for my cats, and it really does remove a lot of loose fur.

A groomer warned me, though, to go easy with it, especially on the fluffy cats, because cats' skin is sensitive and can be injured if you brush too hard, and the fur comes off pretty easily.

3. We got one of those for Big, our GSD*

GSD* = German Shedder Dog

She loves to get it used on her and we love it because it is fast and effective.

It really takes out the undercoat.

5. Works really well on all my fur kids.

Though you do have to be careful not to over do it and move around a lot. My sister Great Pyrenees was left with a bald stripe for a while when one of her students over brushed in just one area. The warning goes for both cats and dogs. They are really fun to use on a ferret. Talk about making nature's slinky contort and wiggle.:rofl:
