| Help. Middle of the night dog question |
|
My Beagle has always been a fussy eater. He skips meals quite frequently, sometimes he doesn't finish meals. He has skipped 2 days of meals, I wasn't real worried because of his usual habits. I opened a jar of chicken baby food tonight and he gobbled it up no problem. But he was acting strange tonight, usually a velcro dog and he didn't follow me to bed, stayed in his chair, and he started panting. This is just odd behavior and it's 330 am and I'm worried. He has no other symptoms that I am aware of. Anyone have any thoughts?

| 1. Take him to the vet as soon as you can. It seems unusual, at |
|
least in my experience, for a beagle to skip or not finish a meal.

| 3. How have his bowel movements been? |
|
Are you having high winds or thunderstorms? A lot of things can make a dog clingy but if there are no external sources that could impact his behavior, then you should take him to a vet to rule out internal causes.
Good luck and keep us posted.

and that is around the time the strange behavior started, he got LESS clingy. I love him, he is my favorite, my baby but he is the MOST odd dog I've ever loved. He shows no other symptoms (bowel, urine, drinking, normal gait, etc...

| 4. When a beagle doesn't want to eat, he's sick. |

Every beagle I've known was a hoover for food.

Thanks for the replies, but apparently I have a neurotic dog. I opened a jar of chicken babyfood for him last night and boy oh boy he gulped it down like he HASN'T EATEN in 3 days. And it occured to me that is when the panting started, like he was excited to have that special food.I was exhausted when I posted last night and wasn't thinking about the time-line. This morning I made him rice and ground beef and he licked the bowl clean. He actually came to bed last night after the baby food. And he has been acting normal all day, following me around etc.. I rescued him from the pound about 5 yrs ago and he has always been a weird dog. Always nervous, and a horrible dog food eater. But last night his behavior was weirder than normal.
I appreciate all the helpful replies, I know I can always come here for some input, that is one of the best things about DU.

Yes, I've read that also. He loves pumpkin, in fact he loves anything that isn't "dog food". I feed them Taste of the Wild, it's a grain-free food my oldest one has allergies so they all get the good-stuff. I don't know what it is with him, I have NEVER heard of a beagle that refuses food, but we are going on 5 yrs, of pickiness. Really it was the behavior paired with not eating that worried me. He usually sticks to me like velcro.:)

From one neurotic dog owner (hmm, maybe I should say owner of a neurotic dog? ;) ) to another, it's never dull. My Bella will rip your arm off for trying to take a piece of paper she found away from her but I have to hand feed her a few bites of her own dinner every night to get her to eat. Go figure.
Happy to hear your's is ok though. :hi:
