My kitty got his test results after hyperthyroid treatment.

We just go the blood test results after the radioactive iodine treatment, and his thyroid function is fine now.

He is on the low side of the normal scale for thyroid function now. I can finally sigh with relief. There is another blood test that has to be done in two more months, but this was the first indication of whether it worked as it should, and it did.

The down side is how horrible he is at the vet's office. They cannot get blood without sedating him---every time. The sweetest cat in the whole world becomes homicidal kitteh, and screams like a banshee. I hate to keep putting him through it, and I hope that this will be the end of it all after the 90 day testing.

Time for celebration after holding my breath for over a month now!

This has been a long row to hoe, and expensive. I cannot believe what I will do for this cat that I won't even do for myself.

And the vet now treats him as if he were feral---THAT is how bad he is. I don't know what his problem is.

3. Our oldest furkid is our Official Office Cat

She's close to 15 and has a mild thyroid problem. She's down to about 7 lbs. At her biggest, she was barely 10. Apart from the weight loss, she acts like a kitten.

Our vet laid out all the options. We have opted to do nothing but love her. Since she's been happy and its been well over a year and she seems stable, we may have made the best decision for us.

I wish you the very best. These things are so damned hard when love them so much.

4. At 15, I probably would have made the same decision.

And especially if it was not in the high numbers. I had two issues. First, he is only 9 years old. And second, I had just lost my other cat a month before I found out about his thyroid problem, and just could not look at losing another one so soon. Timing.

Ashes was 16 pounds at his highest and was told to lose weight. He did the same thing I do when my doctor tells me to lose weight---ignored it. Shortly after that, he just started to lose weight. He was under 11 pounds and continued to lose weight. This was the right decision for me and Ashes. Yours is the right decision too. I hope office kitty continues in good health.

6. Wonderful news!

I understand about the vet behavior- mine does that too. Mellowest boy ever, but get near a vet's office and he's untouchable. Last visit when he had a major sugar crash (he's diabetic) I had to do the injections because he wouldn't let a tech near him. Also throughout the years I've had to put him into and remove him from cages/kennels at the vet. I have to call ahead and let them know we're coming so they can prepare.

7. I think that this is where I am heading with him and the vet.

They have restricted when I can bring him in to earlier in the day so that he can be sedated. I just don't understand it, but there it is. At least you can still handle your baby when he is at the vet. My furkid bit me one visit. Amazing. And you just cannot talk them down---they don't get it that this is for their own good. Ah well, at least my vet hasn't thrown us out yet---this happened to a friend of mine at one vet. Yikes.

Whenever I'm around he's mister lovey and purrs. Never bit or scratched me in all the years we've been through this. But as soon as I leave the room- watch out! He's my Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde kitty.

Re: his fear/hatred of the vet -

I bought some Rescue Remedy for pets.

That last couple of times I've had to take Mr. Flame (the sometimes very nasty Flame Point Siamese cat who is very large) in, he's been given a few cat treats with a few drops of Rescue Remedy for pets on them about an hour before leaving the house.

It really does help. I was scared to take him to the vet, but this approach has really helped a lot and I am one that tends to view "miracle" treatments with a jaundiced eye.

In any event, lets hope your kitty stays well so you don't have to worry about taking him to the vet again any time too soon. In the meantime, you might wish to pick-up a small bottle of Rescue Remedy drops for pets to have on hand just in case.

It is humiliating to me that he is so nasty. Where do I find this? Online only or at pet supply stores? Is it safe? I will look into it. Thanks.
