My dog was limping a whole lot since Sunday. I figured out which paw it was (right rear) but he wouldn't even let me look at it, and he was licking it constantly. So I made a vet appointment, and after pinning him down it seems the paw pad on one of his hind legs was scraped badly. I have no idea how it happened.
The thick keratin layer was scraped off altogether so it was raw and pink, though not bleeding. So he is on antibiotics and pain meds. I know from experience that he is an expert at unwrapping bandages... so I just have to try to keep him from getting it too dirty or wet.
Poor guy.

and have found that the triple antibiotic ointment that is available now with pain reliever works really well. although she licked it a lot before treating it, i put the ointment on, kept her on my lap and calm for a few minutes and she was glad to forget about it once it felt better. by the second treatment, she was practically asking for it.
