Ideas for DFA meet ups and Dean Corps projects |
|
If you have a state wide DFA org get together and have local townhalls where there are enough people to make it worthwhile, and have a townhall meeting. Ask Governor Dean to tape a message for your state, hold them all on the same night, and invite local Dems and progressives to speak, etc. Put notices in local papers. This would be great for building state wide databases, and make canvasing and campaigning much easier when the time comes.
I have been thinking about using the 50 state laboratory idea since before the election. We need to approach and lobby Dem Govs and legislators to get a state healthcare program started. Also, where appropriate, work on civil unions for our gay brothers and sisters. We need to see if there is a way to work on education at the state level, too. Could a state or county offer scholarships to students at a state school in exchange for AmeriCorps type projects within the state?
These are 2 to mull over. I had a list, but misplaced it, and I can't remember right now what all was on it.

1. The state get-together is something I've been thinking about for |
|
a long time. Our web site doesn't seem to be particularly active though.
Fleurs du Mal (who posts here) is coming up with some Dean Corps. activities for our local Meetup. I'm anxious to hear what she suggests.

3. Eric , will you be posting about it in the Minnesota forum? |
|
I was working today and couldn't make the afternoon meeting. I thought it was dumb of them to have it at that time, but I guess it wasn't if nearly 1000 people attended.

5. Another Idea - Talk radio |
|
Are most state DFA organizations incorporated? Could they put talk radio on in their area? This would help get information about specific movements and protests and such. Also DFA members might want to look around for local shows like the Guy James show, and offer to be a guest or even a volunteer researcher.
Also do most good sized towns have community TV stations? Maybe local groups could broadcast townhall meetings and meetups if it doesn't conflict with times of city council meetings and such. Here in Richmond, KY, a city of less than 100,000 has a city govt channel and it is unused much of the time...
