Something I am noticing lately.... |
|
Edited on Mon Dec-13-04 05:38 PM by madfloridian
I see it at the blog, I have seen it on other forums, and on this one. It is a vague thing, but I keep being reminded of the article by Mathew Gross's wife...about the Politics of Victimization.
I see it at forums, pretty obvious about some of it. No need to explain.
In a more subtle way I have seen it at the blog in the context of writing the DNC folks who will vote. Now....I grudgingly sent my letter to my state folks via MoveOn, as I thought that best. My heart was not in it, but I did.
But I keep seeing posts all over the blog to this effect (and mostly from newer folks): Paraphrasing: Be sure not to bother the DNC folks too much, you might bug them, just write one time to one person. Then the subtle work-in....they already think Dean folks are pushy,so don't give them ammunition this time..
Please think about what that does? Someone even quoted the nasty paragraph in Moon's Washington Times about how all the DNC people were just dreading the attacks from all the bad Dean folks. It is like overwhelming, and if I had not read that article, I would not even notice.
While I agree we should not bombard any group with anything, I think they are using these tactics against us at the blog. Here today I posted something quite truthful. It was pointed out that I should not add to the Dean flame threads. My first reaction was that I was wrong, but then I saw the one right by mine in the page, growing and growing...and I realized I was being made to feel the victim.
If all this sounds crazy, just ignore it. I just had these thoughts in my mind today reading the blog which is overrun by "new" folks today.
And so after another cooling period, I will just do what I do. The student from the college who talked to me really made me sad. Their group had been into politics really so much. They saw the Annenberg forum on C-Span. They did feel like victims, victims of a truly rotten political system.

Plus Christmas is here, and politically things are quiet. Noone is firing folks up. We have a month after New Years before they get to DNC. Maybe Dean and others will get in front of the cameras and start motivating folks a bit. With MSM playing up to a religious right, I think folks ARE trying to keep their heads down. It's so damned depressing and idiot cowboys second term hasn't even officially started yet. And then there's Kerry - hardly a peep. **shaking my head** It is just an awful time to be a Democrat right now. With this DLC vs progressive fight it is like watching parents fight as they get a divorce.

I am waiting to hear from my friends who went to the Orlando this week-end to see if they felt any inspiration or just frustration.
