I just joined Democracy for America |
|
I was surprised to find that there were other members in the Bakersfield , CA area.
I am a child of the 60's and want to encourage young people to take to the streets with their issues like we did back then. The only way we got media coverage back then was to make a lot of noise.
I think that if people want to hope that the right will self destruct or believe that our elected officials will stand up for us that is OK by me but I don't hold out any hope that I will see another progressive movement in this country unless it comes from people like us.

:hi: Our group grew a little more last night, and other local Democrats are expressing interest.

3. Hey California***nice to see you. |
|
Glad you joined the ranks of a good crew :)
This country could use a nice surge of sixties Aquarian energy to rev us up and into the streets!

4. Really enjoyed my meeting last night. |
|
I went for the first time last month, after feeling like the only Democrat in my red pocket in California, just north of San Diego, in the Temecula area. I was SO thrilled when I realized that my hubby and I had a 'home away from home.' It felt so need to be with people who believed the same things I did, and were proud of the labels, 'liberal' and/or 'progressive.'
And most important of all, I got my bumpersticker!
That's the way I feel. We are building a strong network of progressives, and we are coming by our support honestly. Trust me, we will be stronger in the long run that they will be. We stand upon a solid foundation. And, we can think of ourselves as a progressive caucus within the Democratic Party - just like the org. affiliated with us - Progressive Democrats of America - wants us to.
We can re-energize the Democratic Party. Maybe we'll be the strongest part of it for the foreseeable future. Here's hoping!
We're growing so fast, we have to find a new meeting place.

5. We just moved to a bigger location because we outgrew the original spot. |

I believe the DFA membership will soar now being the fact there are essentially no Democratic leaders left in the Democratic party.
It may become its own party, or certainly the most viable force within the Democratic party.
Democracy for America is where Democrats need to be investing their energy, time and dinero.

I hope you don't mind if I adopt that statement, 'It may become its own party, or certainly the most viable force within the Democratic party.' 'Democracy for America is where Democrats need to be investing their energy, time, and dinero.' Perfect. That is what I have been trying to communicate. I posted to one bummed-out DUer that I thought that all DUers should be focused on building DFA, because action is the sure cure for feeling that way. I felt very positive, as I've said at the meeting last night, as if I was in on the beginning of something very special that was going to positively impact my neighborhood, my town, my county, my state, and the nation greatly.

7. We have a mutual admiration going on here. |

I liked what you said too.
"Action is the sure cure" for the Democracy blues. *Ay-men*
Needed to read that tonight.

Keep us posted on any and all successes***
Also, there is a DNC meeting in Sacramento on the 22nd (I believe)that is open to the public. If you and others can make it, I think it should be an important meeting to make.
If you want more info, let me know and I'll forward it to you.

And others from my group are going to participate. I'm in a bit of hurt right now because I'm studying for the CalBar test, but my compatriots are working on some local redistricting type things too. Thanks for the post. I'm make sure that the dedicated people that might be able to do this know about it. I'm participating from my great notebook computer, for the moment, as well as going to the monthly meetings. We'll carry on!
