The actual mandate is jobs, jobs, jobs, complicated by insecurity, apprehension, and fear. The nation disapproves both parties and doesn’t trust either. They threw the bums out this election, put a bunch of political neophytes in place, and vented their spleen in an anti-incumbent rout. They wanted change, but not the kind that shakes the foundations of their world. While that wasn’t Obama’s fault or the Dems’, it’s easier to move back into what they know than embrace what they don’t. What they know is manipulation by a corporate America that has convinced them that there is no alternative reality. Add that we were subjected to a staggeringly well-funded disinformation campaign, and that polls showed most voters got all their fiscal facts wrong as they ran to the voting booth to punish the party in power. Obama is being flogged not for what he accomplished, but for what he didn’t.

Doing a presser on the Republican win, the President spoke of hope for civility and progress. Reporters hammered him on who actually speaks for Americans, the Red or the Blue. I was pleased that he didn’t bow to the meme that progressive change was being rejected and, frankly, annoyed at the tone of the questions. Those who insist that this election cycle indicates a Republican mandate are dead wrong. The Republican base voted for this mayhem because this is THEIR idea of change they can believe in — for awhile, anyhow. They suffer under the delusion that the GOP cares about their wellbeing. With nothing to bring to this moment, no plan for jobs or governing, the GOP will finally have to own their little piece of Bush’s folly. We should ALL be more than ready for real, authentic change by the time 2012 rolls along.

Students of astrology know how cycles work, how they build, one on another. As patterns repeat, they don’t close doors; they go forward, opening new options and ways to re-experience old energies. Patterns are for self-discovery and the forward motion of evolvement. As well, students of spirituality acknowledge that the heady energies of this moment are leading us toward a perceptual shift in every aspect of being.

While the Republicans are trying to make this into a tsunami of demand for their leadership and the trouncing of liberals, this is most surely a more cosmic event. Whatever all this means, it’s holistic to the changes ahead and calculated to bring us to awareness and balance, to prepare us, in some unknown measure, for the future. We must allow ourselves to feel the losses without stepping away from our commitment to do what’s right, what’s just and what’s necessary to usher in a new era.

But we can stop them. It starts with your pen and paper. It starts with your computer. It starts with going to your school board meetings, city council meetings, and letters to the editor. It starts with keeping the fax and phone numbers for your state assembly and senate members, as well as your state Congresspersons and Senators when the nonsense coming from Congress becomes too much to bear.

It starts with you not getting beaten down, and to help bring others up who are. Its about sharing food with others, giving some of your extra eggplant that you’ve grown but you just can’t eat, to other people who are hungry. Its about helping other people who are in need, who are alone, who are sick, tired, poor and need to be hugged and held. Its about you and your community taking to the streets and to the halls of power. Its not just about the President, or your congressperson or your Senator doing it for you. As far as we can tell, they won’t or they can’t. Not right now.

It starts with you. And you will have the planets and the stars aligned up for you these next few years to do just that.

So take this analogy to heart and keep it there, beating strong: They want you to imagine that you’re weak and you have no power. But you do. Its already there. All you have to do is tap it, put all your energy into it, focus it and use it to defeat them.

4. Americans don't know what they want, but they know they don't want THIS

whatever THIS happens to be at the time.

Republicans count on manipulating this, and do so extremely well by introducing enough discomfort to drive people to not want THIS, no matter if what they choose as a substitute, is worse. Stacking the deck by creating, in the Carter era, a phony energy crisis to make Carter look weak and to inconvenience us enough that we don't want THIS, no matter that Reagan was waiting to begin destroying the middle class...that Bush tried to create the second great depression on purpose, because no matter who was in office, people would need to feel that they had changed THIS, to feel that they had some say in the matter, when all they are offered are the choices handed to them to create greater Republican control.

I am very ashamed of Americans and hope that they can get it together in 2012 to again choose the positive instead of simply something other than THIS, whatever THIS may be late in 2012, be it jobs, etc.
