i think we all saw this years ago - because most of us are in tune. but what about those of us in our 40s or so...? Gen-X, can we talk? http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=439x1613861

I saw common people being marginalized when I was still young it seems; hard working blue collar people being portrayed as "low class", for lack of a better term. It seemed that we were being prepared to not care when the real jobs making things went away. I also recall Walmart and K-Mart destroying the businesses in the small town and surrounding small towns where I grew up. It was the end of an era for sure, one for which we were all responsible.
I had no respect for the pink and green clad bunch of fools I entered college with, I knew that selfish, mind-numbed culture was good for nothing but following orders. They were a cruel bunch in my opinion. I dreaded what they would bring to the world, even as mixed up as I was as a kid who never fit in back then. I also dreaded the religious right like the plague and worried about what they would do. I had no spirituality at all when I was young, I was seriously agnostic, but I still saw endings everywhere. I really think I knew that what I saw regarding respect for working people and small businesses was a last glimpse and it wasn't for the best either.
I became a good little follower in some ways for a while after a life crises myself, but it didn't stick. I'm way to cynical for it to stick.

I really did, I tried to act like I believed all kinds of stuff to keep people off my case, THEN I married a Republican and tried his mindset too; but came wide awake like I was scarfing No Doze. Poor guy, bless his soul, we're still together rude awakening and all.

5. Just starting to realize it lately |

Turn 45 next week....spent the first half of my life in a town that seemingly existed in the 50's-60's rather than the 70's-80's. (I can remember my older brother being a soda jerk at the drugstore well into my grade school years, for example) Spent the next 20 years or so working on my education and training so that I could be one of the "haves" someday. About the past 5 years or so I've realized that's never going to happen and, more importantly, that that's not what it's all about anyway.
