I know many other people who have had this experience.
Notice the people in that thread who don't believe: they are arguing very hard and in very defensive and angry ways for their own viewpoint. They seem to have so much invested in their lack of belief.

Starting with Harvard professor William James, father of modern psychology. He and his colleagues were hounded by the scientific establishment and simply written off as frauds, even though they used strict scientific methods and also exposed many frauds. Fascinating how invested people are in thinking the world of science is above such non-scientific behavior.
Read "Ghost Hunters" by noted science writer Deborah Blum, in which she takes a heavily-researched look at James' findings. It's a fascinating book.
