I was setting up some new automatic payments today and called one of my debtors to move a monthly due date back a few days. Asked for the due date to be the 21st.
When I went online to set up an automatic recurring payment, I saw that they had set the first payment due on Dec. 21....a YEAR from now.
I called them back right away to report the mistake. After many attempts and a discussion with her manager, the nice lady said, basically, "I'm trying to change it back to 2011 but the computer won't accept it. Your monthly payment amount is set at $0.00 through next December."
I can, of course, override the suggestion and continue to make payments - or I can funnel that money into extra car payments for a year and have my car paid off a year early.
How long do I wait before I trust it?

1. that's pretty cool if you ask me :) |

I'd love that to happen to a few of my bills ;)
I'd say go with it...make the payment if you can, but otherwise see it as a gift, maybe put the money away?

2. I'd be concerned about interest accruing |

during that year. Make sure that's not the case - if you can....

4. Probably shouldn't trust this one |

Somebody who knows how to fix it will eventually figure it out.

But going to just divert the money sensibly until they do. Hoping it's the same influences that caused a BoA employee to "forget" to add my name to our mortgage paperwork, right before we had to short sell our house:)

6. cool, my mercury retro story is different |

I pay my electric bill automatically. They emailed me and said first that it had gone through, then told me it hadn't because my settings were wrong. They added the balance to the next bill. But it went through my credit card.
I would much rather start paying a bill a year later like you, than have my issue. Hope it works for you.
