Hi, Wow, my Voodoo Lily plant bloomed this week. I didn't know what the heck the thing was doing. The bloom only lasted a very short time, it did not stink like some information said they were to do.
Has anyone else grown these things and had a bloom?
Peace

And boy, does it ever stink when it does! It reminds me of something out of "Little Shop of Horrors!"
If I remember right, the bloom only lasts a couple of days, a week at the most. Then everything dies back and it does the same thing next year!
Maybe the older the plant, the stinkier it is...I have no idea.

Hi, Thanks for the reply. How big is your bulb? Mine was about the size of a baseball this year when I put it in the ground and this is the first year it has bloomed. Does yours just die down after the bloom then? It is so strange because before this year it would sprout up with all these tropical looking leafs and the stem would be all mottled, then when it bloomed the inside "petal" of the bloom was mottled in the same pattern as the stem did when it was growing like it was before. I would love to see some pictures of yours.
Peace

If you Google "voodoo lily" and click on images, mine looks just like the purple one (1st image.) I have no idea how big my bulb is because I never planted it. I also have one in the back yard that I never planted. I've been here a long time and the only thing I can figure is the squirrels did it! I find different things planted around my yard all the time...makes life interesting!
It blooms, dies down, then by the fall, everything is dead and I just pull the stuff out. It's my kind of plant, in that it's so low maintenance. It also doesn't seem to need much water.
It hasn't started to stink, yet, but when it does, I'll pm you!
:)
on edit, I'll see if I can get my neighbor to take a pic to send you.
