I'm planning on buying a composter. I'm pretty busy/lazy so something I don't need to manually mix appeals to me.
I'm looking at either getting two tumbling composters or one of those vertical continuous types.
What's your preference?

1. I had a friend who had a tumbling one and she hated it. |

She didn't like that you could only put so much in the thing, then it had to be left alone to work. She went back to the old 3 bin, screwed-together wooden pallet system. That's what I prefer, too. When you turn the compost you move it over to the next bin so you have compost working at different stages. I'm pretty lazy about the whole thing, but you have to figure that even if you do nothing to it eventually it's going to turn into compost.

2. Just second-hand information |

My sister has a tumbler and she said she has trouble turning it when it's getting full. Just something to consider.

3. We have a pallet composter. |

But my husband is thinking of getting a couple of barrels and cutting some air holes and a door in one side of each and then just rolling them around the yard. It would be cheaper and easier than a tumbler it sounds like. No arm strength really required to turn a lever and he could push it around with the lawn tractor when it got too heavy. It's just an idea at the moment. Not sure if it would work well or not.

4. I'm thinking of trying that too |

with a plastic trash can. Drill holes in it for air circulation and use a bungee cord to keep the lid on and roll it.

I just pile all my green stuff up in my boxes and dig the good stuff out from the bottom when I want it.
