This must be older data from NGA because it lists me as 7a, but you can search by zip code for a base.

2. Zone 5 here in Iowa

With typical spring weather. Highs in the 60's today, into the 30's by Saturday.

According to the zip code map. I've always assumed I was 7 or thereabouts, never considered 6 anything. But then again, this winter has rearranged my thinking about all sorts of things botanical. :)

15. Look close at the other map as well

The zip one says I'm 7. My co-op and the actual map says 6. I'm leaning toward the 6 :)

The problem here is that most winters we bottom out at around 20, but once every few winters it goes down to 10 or so.

Also, most winters we get no snow, but once every few winters we get a pile of snow. :P

16. Yea, I guess it is just a guideline

We usually have 2-3 single digit nights in a row then weeks before it happens again.

The last two winters (especially the last) we stayed cold cold for weeks at a time.

Let's not get into the S word. They are calling for snow tonight. :(

Today I planted half a pound of peas in a raised bed. I can't wait till the ground dries out and the weather gets warmer!

13. I doubt if the soil is warm enough to germinate seeds.

I have greens/mache that came back to life after winter. That is the only thing I have growing outside. I usually put black sheets of plastic on the planting beds to warm the soil for a few weeks. Keep us posted if the peas work out.

I've got several different varieties of tomatoes about
another month away from producing and some cukes too.

20. Took some pics this afternoon.

This is one of the Better Boy plants. They might be hard to see
but it has a few that are slightly larger than golf ball size.

21. When we first moved to Raleigh 17 years ago, it was zone 7...now gone to zone 8.

We wintered over a Bay tree outside this winter with no problem...and people are now growing Oleander in this area. It is getting tough - the summer heat and humidity is so intense that diseases really hit some plants hard, such as tomatoes.
