Quick advice please. I have conquered the Purslane problem, I think.

I now have a patch of about 20' X 20' with occasional clumps of grass and crabgrass. I have tried to seed but something keeps eating the seed. The longer it sits, the fewer seeds I see in the AM. I was told to use only Fesque, no Bluegrass. Fine with me. I did try it but the birds-or whatever- ate it.

The ideal thing for me to do would be to have the whole ares sodded but that is not in the budget.Is there a quick-growing Fescue that you could suggest? Perhaps something I could lightly rake in and would germinate more quickly than the Pennington Smart Seed that I have used. So far, the whole 7 pound bag has been used and I have very little grass to show for it.

I am hoping to find something that will come back next year. It now looks like I am cultivating crabgrass. Should I did that up first?

My husband used to take care of these outside chores but it is now my job and I am out of my element.

Thanks for any help. I have HD, Lowe's, Walmart and Ace Hardware close enough to purchase some seed.

1. Geeze, please overlook the typo's on my first post.

I just spoke to the garden manager at HD and was told to wait at least 3 weeks to either reseed or sod this area. My yard looks like a slum and I think I seeded it too soon after using the weed killer. Of course, it does not say that on the seed bag.

I am going to square the area off and get ready to lay sod. I've had it with the seed. A strip of sod 2'x 5' is $4.49. I will shop around in the meantime to see if I can get a better price. I will also try and see if I can get rid of some of the clover I have this year on other parts of my lawn. Bumper crop. I'm wondering if this came along with the compost from the town free pile.

2. have you thought about making part of it into a garden

birds can't eat bulbs

would save you some money on re-sodding it

3. I would love to have a garden but the area in question is smack in the

middle of the front yard. It would not look right. I found another spot that sells sod, going tomorrow to see what they charge. If it stops raining here, I will measure the area and cost it out. Between the weed killer and the seed, I have already spent $60.00 and still have a bare patch.

When this section is put in order, I'll figure out what to do about all the clover. A few plants never bothered me before but this is an infestation.
