How often and how much do you water basil? |
|
I have it in a pot on my kitchen table.
I water enough to wet the roots every day but the smaller stems seem to wither and dry and the bigger ones list to the side.
Any advice is welcome and thank you.

1. Basil can take a lot of water, but it doesn't like having "wet feet" so |

it's important that your pot drains well. I water the little seedlings daily b/c they have such short roots. Once they plant is established, I water when the surface of the pot gets dry-- which has ALSO been every day this summer because it's been Africa hot here since mid-May. Even heat-loving basil is having a hard time and the more recent seedlings seem to be doing better than the ones I started earlier... maybe because all they've ever known is blistering heat and crazy humidity?
Does your basil get good sunlight on your kitchen table? It needs at least 4-5 hours and prefers all-day sun (though not, apparently, if that's at surface-OF-the-sun temps.)
