Vietnamese cilantro?

A friend lent me some of his old gardening magazines and in one of them I found an article about "Warm Season Herbs" that mentioned Vietnamese cilantro as an summer-long alternative to its more famous cousin who bolts once the temperatures head into the 80's.




I've been doing some Googling and some folks find it a good substitute for regular cilantro while others say it has that "soapy taste" that people who don't like regular cilantro complain about.


Have any of you grown (or tasted) Vietnamese cilantro?

1. I tried to grow it last year, but it didn't germinate.

It's a smartweed. I can't remember where I got the seeds from. Probably Tradewinds in California, but I'm not sure.

Anyway, nada happened.

2. Hmmm... well that puts the "easy to grow" claim I'd read into question.

I wonder if I could find it in an Asian market next time I'm in DC and root some clippings? :shrug:
