| What's wrong with my Nellie Stevens holly?? |
|
I've googled all day and can't find anything. So as usual I turn to my trusty buddies at DU who know 'everything'
I planted 2 Nellies last year and they're gowing fine except I recently noticed some of the leaves on both are turning yellow and have tiny black spots on them. The only thing I could find that might be the cause are leaf miners. I dunno. Anyone have any idea if it's leaf miners or something else. Any cures, lol. Thanks guys.
I love my Nellies.

| 1. Leaf miner damage looks like lines on the leaf. Usually not a major |
|
problem. They actually tunnel in the leaf. Are you fertilizing them with a good fertilizer?

| 2. I used Hollytone on the Nellies |

and Arborvitae shrubs. Maybe it isn't leaf miners. No tunnels, just yellowing with black spots. I think there is some sort of little garden bugger on the underside of the leaves that are yellow but, they're very, very tiny! Most of the leaves are fine maybe only 5% of the plant is showing this yellowing - just want to take care of it before it's a big problem.
I'm new to gardening and I'm getting so frustrated ;)

| 3. If they are interior leafs you are fine .... |
|
..... the yellow leafs are the old ones and the holly will shed them. Your new leafs ('06) will turn yellow and fall off in '07.
Evergreens shed old leafs too .... just not all @ once.

| 4. My hollies have that, too |
|
I just assumed it was fungus from all the cold damp we've been having--everything seems to have some kind of fungus, but I'm ignoring it because I know it will go away as soon as the weather changes.
