Geez, it's hot out there!

I'm really regretting that I didn't get more done in the garden while it was cooler. Now it's Memorial Day and I MUST get those last tomatoes, squash, peppers, and all the other long-season, hot-weather lovers in. Got kabocha and butternut squashes in yesterday. Today, I planted a bit of romaine and did a lot of watering. My cucumbers are up and looking nice. My beans are getting eaten. Four o'clocks didn't come up at all, but that's okay because I spotted some nicotiana seedlings I'll put in that spot. I'm eying the spectacular growth of something called myoga that a nice Japanese lady gave me. I'm not sure what one does with it, but it's promising to become a weed. Sure hope it tastes good.

1. Wonder what happened with your four-o'clocks? Wish the same thing

would happen to mine. They keep trying to monopolize my flower bed and I keep trying to get rid of all of them and move them, maybe, to the compost heap.

It's seriously hot here in N. GA, too, and dry as well. We had to put the soaker hose on our beans last night, and had to water the strawberries too. Almost no rain in May.

4. Mine have never reseeded

And the fresh-from-the-packet seeds didn't come up this year. But if I do get them up, they always do nicely.

2. Hot here in Jersey, too

I even waited until 7 p.m. to go out. No sun but...it was still hot. I worked until dark and when I came in, I was a hot, sticky mess.

I planted hot weather things (like zucchini) before it got hot but until the last day or so, nothing had come up. I've seen some cucumbers and beans pop up.

3. My cukes have popped, too.

We tend to have a lot of pests that love the cukes, so I buy the super-duper disease resistant ones and spray this stuff made of garlic and mint oil to keep off the pests. Or at least make them smell funny.
