Damn! Because of all the rain we've had, my garden was the most lush that it has ever been.
Then disaster.
Heavy rains broke the stems of my balloon flowers.
Rust fungus has destroyed my hollyhocks and all my malvas. I was late on recognizing it and the sulpher applications are a bit too late.
The dreaded red lily leaf beatle has defoliated ALL my lilies and left behind it's disgusting crap.
And, just in time, here come the Japanese Beetles to wreck my roses.
Do I have any successes, you ask? Well, the daylillies are pretty well impervious to anything. It's just too bad that they bloom themselves out in a week's time.

Run out and check under the hosta leaves for slugs. Now's the time to catch 'em, eeeeeeeeeew!!
All the challenges of moving to a dry, dry climate are considerably mitigated by the reflection that I will never again have to play "squish the slug" during spring cleanup...
