Or other place where you sit and enjoy the outdoors. I was just out on my deck this morning, choosing recipes from a cookbook for my fresh garden produce:

1. my deck is a MESS! it's been used as the outside work room

and is covered with paint stuff, cleaning stuff and trash.

tomorrow when I clean, I'll take some pics

my big front porch (on the north side) is nicer and usable, but no pics yet

3. Here's two

So you can see the whole thing. As you can see, I have a lot of shade in the back yard, so impatiens, caladium, fuchsia and coleus all do well. Picture number two has the ficus tree on the right that I have to cram into my home office during the winter. Even after pruning it still takes up a lot of room. I have finch feeders hanging from the tree so I can enjoy watching the goldfinches from my living room all year 'round. It's my little oasis. Plus the cats love spending time out there.

It's on gardeners.com. It's a little pricey, but maybe by next spring I can save up the money.

Blue Gardener, that is stunning!! It looks like heaven! So colorful, too.

Are those chairs the ones that are a little higher than average? Bar chairs, I think they're called.

I really love the weeping willow in pic 1. Adds such atmosphere.

What are the hanging things in pic 2?

The ficus really looks healthy.

Do you guys dine out there?

7. They are the higher chairs

Not as comfortable as I would like though. The weeping willows behind my house are humongous! They're beautiful, but very messy.
The hanging things are finch sacks for holding the niger seed. They prefer them over a regular bird feeder. You can find them at Target, or about any store that sells bird seed.
I like to sit out in the evenings and just enjoy the ambience. It's a nice plus to sit and read the morning paper on the weekend as well.
And yes, the ficus is very healthy, and very big.

8. This is my haven... it's very hard to glue my butt to the 'pute and work

...when I have this to go to. It was a huge effort and big investment, too. The door you see leads out of the master bedroom on the second floor. The bedroom is built out over part of the garage, the rest of the top of the garage is this little porchlet, or maybe it's an oversized balcony. Either way, the exposure is WSW, so wonderful as it was, it was almost unusable in the Santa Fe summer until we built the pergola and installed the awning cloth over half:



We had to take the cushions in during the recent rainy spell, but it's generally so dry here that we can leave them out all the time. The little blue glass feeder hanging from the middle support post attracts hummingbirds, they come buzzing in, and if I'm there they buzz out and hover, making "chp-chp" noises at me for a moment, before (If I stay very still) venturing back for a quick sip. They also come to the "Victoria blue" salvia on the top shelf of the rack, and from the bed we can see them through the clerestory windows first thing in the morning. You can get a glimpse in the picture of the Jemez mountains in the distance. I love it here:



Every day I give thanks for the luck that's brought me to such a pleasant place.

10. looks like a secret garden

Love that color combination of terracotta and blue, tygr. It looks like a wonderful place to go anytime, but especially upon waking up.

It's such a private deck. There's something intriguing about "hideway" spots where we can enjoy nature.

11. Yep, I put the bathrobe on and go out...

...first thing in the morning and feel like I own the world, watching the sunlight slowly make its way up the mountains to the south. I can't believe I have such a special place. Some evenings when the sunset is unbelievably spectacular, the DH and I just sit out there and watch the technicolor sky until it fades to dusky purple. We can hear little neighborhood noises-- kids shooting baskets up the streets, music from an open window next door, the occasional dog bark, etc., but we're in our own little world.
