What is this? I got it from local nursery that got it from Heronswood "at the end"

Heronswood Nursery had a lot of unique plants and many of them were sold to other nurseries when they got closed and the employees who knew what they were were gone. Not sure what this is, but the place I got it from had it in a cold greenhouse and said bring it back when it blooms please. Any ideas? The stalk is now 2 1/2 ft between plant and flower bud. It has baby bulbs developing on its sides, when the outer skin dries and peels off they drop into soil.

Any ideas? I'll try to post a picture later when the flower opens. I call it "Audrey".

1. its an african onion.. I didn't save the tag

its a neat novelty succulent.. I have one and its leaves are about 3 feet long from the bulb.. Mine has never bloomed tho, im curious what its flower looks like

I'll post a picture when it blooms. It looks like it could be a number of things, but nothing quite fits entirely.

Ive had mine for 2 years and it looks exactly like yours.. Ill post a picture tomorrow.. Just be sure if you ever repot it to keep the majority of the bulb above ground.. Try not to clip the leaves, thats what causes the browning at the tips that yours have... be aware though that the leaves will hit 3-4 feet out of a lemon size bulb.. And dont be tempted to pull off the bulblets, they wont grow.. Ive tried..

they prefer a nice cactus/succulent soil and i goes nuts when I give it a cactus fertilizer

2. I have no idea but it's a cool looking plant.

The foliage is similar to an agapanthus (lily of the nile) but the bulb looks much too naked and the bloom head is wrong. The bloom looks more like a kniphofia (red hot poker) but the foliage isn't right.

3. Well it's very simpler to the Ponytail Palm (beaucarnea recurvata).

But the Ponytail is not a bulb.

7. Ornithogalum caudatum False Sea Onion Liliaceae

Ornithogalum caudatum, or False Sea Onion, is an interesting bulbous plant native to South Africa. The bulb grows above ground and will reach up to 4 inches (10 cm) in diameter. The strap-like leaves are semi-succulent and will reach up to 36 inches (1 m) in length. It is an easy plant to grow and it is well suited for containers. A couple of warnings, though: contact dermatitis is common in people who handle the bulbs and because of the size of the bulbils, they can pose a choking danger to children.

Blooming Time: The small white flowers with a green stripe usually flower from May to August. There may be as many as 50 to 100 flowers per stalk.

It was ruiner4u that put me on the trail. I don't know what I plugged into Google yesterday ( I thought it was African Onion) but the plants I got where water plants for your aquarium. So I knew that couldn't be it. So I used just the image search on Google and there it was. Neat plant!

Flower stem is over 2 ft long, curves towards sun so I keep rotating it. Very cool and thanks again.
