| My garden is going to the local community food kitchen. |
|
I must have 30 cucumbers, heads of lettuce the size of basketballs and loads of green beans. I've been foisting this stuff on my friends and then it dawned on me to call the local community kitchen. They were thrilled and I'm sorry that I didn't think of donating sooner. I love the vegie garden but can't eat anywhere near as much as I grow. Now I'll grow for them!

Our local food bank accepts all garden overflow but it's a 15 mile drive so it only makes sense if I have a carload of stuff or will be in that area for some other reason. I asked for names of closer organizations that would appreciate the surplus and the food bank provided the names of three very small organizations within 3 miles of my house.
I also discovered that by putting a table in front of my house with a "free" sign the veggies disappeared within a couple of hours and I made a few new friends in the neighborhood.
We have a new quarantine in our part of the state and if they find a certain pesky moth in our neighborhood we won't be allowed to share at all --- we're hoping that it doesn't happen.

| 4. Actually, I didn't think they would take my veggies. I was assuming |
|
that because they didn't know me and didn't know if I used chemicals to grow the stuff (which I don't), that they'd turn me away. Instead they were thrilled and I noticed lots of entries in their Guest Book of people doing the same thing.
The great thing for me is that now I know I won't be wasting anything. I love to grow this garden but since it's just me here, I can't eat everything I grow. This is a perfect solution!

| 5. I can see that. I live near a small town and may be able to find a use for mine |
|
If I get too much next yr. There are a couple community food places which might take them.
About chemicals, when I listed my last house for sale, the realtor wanted to know if my garden was "organic". I looked at her in puzzlement while she explained about chemicals, fertilizers, etc and asked why the heck I would use that stuff on a home garden.
