The apartment management decided we needed new fences. They broke my rose canes off at the base by letting the picket sections fall on them and will make an even bigger mess as they pull out the posts and my tulips, lillies, etc...:cry:

The lawn guys used the weedeater on a ground cover that I have been nuturing since last spring. It's growing between the pavers on the patio. They have looked at it all summer and suddenly decided it didn't belong. Zap! Unlike your plants, I'm certain that mine will recover.

I'm so sorry. Have you spoken at all to the people doing the actual digging? I would have been down there talking to them about what they could do to minimize the damage.

6. Don't know what zone you live in but

you can prune your roses back hard and cover them for winter. They should be fine if you can keep then from stomping all over them and they don't dig too close to the roots. You can also replant your bulbs. tell the brutes to put them in a bucket and wait till they're done. Lilies and tulips can also be divided at this point and planted 3x their height deep. Good luck!

7. I am so sorry.

I cried the last two years when cutworms went after my hostas. It's hard to watch such destruction, wherever it comes from. I know I'm late to the thread, but my thoughts are with you. You will grow again, I just know it. Gardeners are like that, or at least I am! :-)

Take care and think of new ways to plant that they can't touch. I'm with you!
