Has anyone tried growing potatoes in a garbage can?

I know they taste better, but how many potatoes do you get? Hubby & I were figuring this out yesterday and determined it would take at LEAST $2 to do ONE can. Am I foolish to even try?

2. I've heard something about using old tires...

...though I'm not sure how chemically friendly THAT would be.

I grew potatoes last year in a big hill; I piled it up on one side of my lawn (where the grass was pretty scarce anyway) and they turned out great. I just finished the last one a few weeks ago.

My advice is to have fun with whatever you do and enjoy the experience and the learning it brings. :-)
