Cleaning out the containers to get ready for this year's crop...we were going to sift the soil, mix it with a lot of compost and reuse...we found the soil that was fairly sterile when it was new last year was teeming with earthworms. In all 15 containers. I don't understand how as the containers are up off the ground.
The only thing I can think of is that the Worm Poop I used to fertilize also contained eggs (or whatever worms develop from) and they've grown from that. But I've got the most beautiful soil now to put my tomatoes in.

| 3. Do you have a kid who digs them up and puts them in there? |
|
My son did that all last summer. He even said, for a Thanksgiving kindergarten project last fall, that he was thankful for worms. I'm pretty sure all of my containers have worms in them.

No, and no kids in the neighborhood either. Or at least none that would do a good thing like that.

| 5. Hmm. That is odd, then. |

There had to be worm babies in there, then. How do they reproduce?

| 6. From what I can find, they lay eggs |
|
Which are, evidently, very, very tiny. So, theoretically anyway, the Worm Poop -could- be how they got there

Worm poop is full of worm eggs. It is a great fertilizer plus a great way to increase the worms in your garden.
