| At last! At last! Woo hoo, at last! |
|
My mom (DUer Raven, who often posts down here) had an AMAZING garden last year, which she really didn't get started with until late last summer. Cucumbers like nuclear submarines, tomatoes like softballs, corn, beans, potatoes, the works. She LOVED it, and was able to donate bales of produce to the local food bank.
And then winter came along. She pulled up what was left and built a compost pile, laid down newspapers over the soil, covered it with hay...and has been waiting ever since. Picture a woman looking out the window at a snowcovered field, chin in hand, knowing there's a garden under there waiting to happen. That's Raven.
Memorial Day weekend was her target-date to get the garden going...and it is now upon us. I'm going up to her place this weekend to see her, and dollars to donuts says she'll be covered in dirt and grinning from ear to ear.
Oh, after the snow finally melted, she took a peek under the newspaper and hay to see what was what. She found garlic running riot all over the soil, growing even in the dark and cold.
Gonna be a good year for mom, I think. Dirty fingernails = joy.
:)

| 4. You must be kidding! That guy wouldn't know the difference between a clove |

of garlic and a sprig of parsley! I'm afraid to let him weed 'cause he'd pull up all my plants. :-)

But when he was two
I was going down a row carefully weeding between my seedlings and he came right behind me and just as carefully pulled up each and every seedling. It is funny now, but at the time my blood pressure rose just a tad.
You should make him dig new beds. Big grown sons should help their moms dig heavy dirt. Either that or spread mulch :)
