| 1. Burnout 3 = Digital Crack |
|
I rented it once and played it ALL DAY LONG.
Probably not the type of racing you're interested in, but it is FUN.

I bought it about 3 months ago and I've played the bejeezus out of it. I finished all the crash scenarios, but I don't think I'll ever get through all the races. The AI in the latter stages of the game is insane.

| 3. I've played a couple of racing simulators I liked |
|
I was always a sucker for the racing games in the arcades back in the day. Monaco GP, Sprint, Lemans (real old school) and then of course Pole position.
For the PC Simulators I've got to say I liked Indy Car Racing 2 the best. I could spend all day pounding around Road America. That sim wasn't the easiest. But it seemed the best combo of forgiveness vs. realism. I mean to say that you could break the rear end away and oversteer or you could have understeer too.
GP3 etc., it feels like you are on rails and understeer is the order of the day.
Now Grand Prix Legends is in many ways the best sim ever. The learning curve is so steep though. I didn't have the time to get good enough to really enjoy it. Maybe when I finally quit Unreal Tournament I'll go back to racin'.

| 6. GPL = greatist. racing. sim. ever. |
|
You got the bit about the learning curve right, but once you get the hang of it there's nothing that comes close.
Hard to believe the game is now what? 8 years old and still nothing tops it for it's physics realism.
I used to run a league for the best sim racers on the net back in the late 90's (lucky enough at the time to have a t-1 in hy "home") and I still have replay files archived of the entire series I ran, plus another (British) series I drove in.
Nothing I've tried since has even come close. All it really needs to be the absolute best even today is a good reworking of the graphics engine to get it up to current DX 9 standards.

It's a driving simulator.
One of the best gaming franchises ever IMO.

| 5. what type? kart, xtreme, rally, street, course, sim, etc... |
|
i still love my hydro thunder. also dig my 4x4 thunder. as well as trcikstyle (unlike most people).
love my looney tunes, wacky races, and mario for karts.
love my metro street racer, and to this day i love a good ol' outrun game.
i wanna get f-15 ferrari for sim, heard it's an amazing sim, from the ferrari team racers' own interview (ferrari wouldn't liscense the name in that manner without it). but haven't the disposable at the moment (big card release for vampire the eternal struggle coming up -- priorities!).
not a huge fan of GT series, but then not a huge fan of CART, NASCAR, or rally either. i often like a touch more arcade action with my racers. best times, customizing, etc. really isn't my cup o' tea.
