Nervous mom question about an online game "Runescape"

My son, who will be 8 on Friday, played this at a friend's house last week without my knowledge. Long story, I made a mommy mistake, but there you go.

Annyway, he wants to play at home. I've checked out the site and am concerned that he has to log in to even read the FAQs and "Help" pages; so I'm unable to read much about it. I'm also concerned about the content, of course.

Can someone just give me a clue about the content? It appears to be somewhat violent, but how much? Gory? "Clean"? Cartoonish?

Any info is appreciated--I'm clueless and just concerned mostly about him having to log in.

1. I've seen it briefly, and it's pretty un-offensive.

Can't say as I'm very familiar with it, as I also found it rather dull. Graphics of it aren't of realistic enough quality for any violence to be very bad, and yes, I'd classify it as somewhat cartoonish. If you want to see pictures, try this

2. It's pretty innocuous.

A co-worker plays it with his 10 year old son.
I wouldn't worry about it, except that he'll be interacting with older kids who might try to rip him off in the game.
There is a "PVP"(player versus player) area where members can fight one another that he might run into accidently which would undoubtedly be frustrating for him.

Other than that, it's a tidy little RPG.
