I was just searching for some pictures of American Fighter Aircraft for an LBN post when I got to thinking about flight sims. I bought my first computer so I could play sims and I played alot of them. Thats pretty much all my computer was used for until the release of the DOOM demo. My personal favs. featured current or fairly current planes F3.0, F-117, F-15 III, etc. Does anyone make a good flight sim these days in that aircraft genre?

And there's always the MS Flgiht Sim(s).
But I think aircraft fighting sims are out of vogue just now. All things being cyclical they'll return, but I've no idea when.
I love flightsims myself. Combat-wise I loved Chuck Yeagers and Air Warrior. Somehow I couldn't get into modern flight combat sims.

I could do Fishbed v. Phantom duels all day. Actually I probably did. I played a bit of AW myself. I could never get used to that teenie window and those tiny little planes. Just for kicks I installed Janes F/A-18 last night. ...not too good.

It's for console, Dreamcast, but it allowed me to play something i've always wanted to play, blue angel aerial stunt flying (actually it's the japanese version of blue angels, but still...). you can even play 4 player simultaneous if you can find 4 other people willing to cooperatively play (which i find is a task harder than any of the complex stunts the game can throw at you).
i always dreamt of playing a blue angels sim flight game and i finally got my wish. they made a sequel for aerowings which allowed you to blow stuff up (apparently there was a lot of demand to blow stuff up and one of the reasons it got low ratings in some video game magazines. *sigh* no respect for innovation or genius). i've heard the sequel was excellent and a faithful sim. so naturally it was partially panned because it was on a sega console, was a sim, didn't impart 10 x 42 power amount of pointless options, was actually challenging, and didn't give flashy 60 hit combos. as you can perhaps tell i have little respect for modern game magazines and popular gamer culture and opinions.
i'd recommend aerowings 1 and 2 though, i had a lot of fun with them. i doubt anything like them will be done for a while in this gamer environment.
