| 2. What are the specs required for Doom3? |
|
My new monitor is great at 1024, I love the res (it's a flat panel, first time I've had one).
What I'm running now is an Athlon XP 1.15 Gigahertz, an Nvidia GeForce4 MX420, and 512 mb of RAM. What would I need to upgrade to run things like Doom 3?

| 4. you'd probably want a 128-meg vid card and 1 gig of ram |
|

and you may need a slightly higher processor speed though a 1.15 ghz may be doable if you address the vid and ram. And all of those upgrades would allow you to run doom 3 at low/low-moderate settings. It's amazing the amount of video power needed to run a game that's mostly comprised of stumbling around in the dark with a flashlight. Ok now that I've gotten the mandatory flashlight/Doom 3 joke out of the way I can suggest to you that you'd be better off keeping the computer you have and getting Half-Life II. Much better.

To be honest, I just wish I could figure out how to get my system to run my beloved Deus Ex again. When I upgraded video cards, the game no longer worked properly.
I'm pretty happy with the processor speed for what I do. I'll probably just slap some more RAM in there after Clausmas is over.

| 3. When I first started working a help desk like 8 years ago... |
|
...we had a Doom network (maybe it was Duke Nukem - one of those 1st person shooters) setup to play on nightshift.
BTW, I suck at it - they'd make it a contest to see who would kill me first since I was so horrible at it

| 7. Quake IV: great game... |
|
Played it through on Veteran. I loved it... while the game offers mostly mindless killing (ok, only mindless killing) the graphics, maps, and weapons make it worth the pain you'll go through as you die over and over, swarmed by enemies.

| 9. Don't buy it for the plot... |

but the gameplay is enjoyable. You can get about 10 hours of stogg killing and general mayhem. I haven't played online, but if Q3A is any indication, the multiplayer will be going on for some time.
