| 3. Although, launching without a real RPG didn't much hurt the PSP |

But I can see your point. I'm sure Oblivion was the 'killer app' for a segment of potential 360 players who will now wait to plunk down another chunk of dough.

| 4. It was definitely the killer app for me and my girlfriend |

my girlfriend especially. She loves the role playing games. I may intro her to Neverwinter Nights on my mac, but I think she likes the XBOX more.
Now, I have an XBOX 360 coming and the game I intended to play on it is delayed, so trying to figure out a game to get for it instead...perhaps King Kong...

I don't think it will run Oblivion right now, but that's one game I'm getting no matter what.

If you can play Half-Life2, you very likely will be able to play Oblivion without upgrading.
I would do so anyway, especially since Oblivion looks as though it uses HDR imaging, and that will take a whomping amount out of your framerate if you try to use it.
I have an AMD Athlon XP 2000 CPU (I know, I'm upgrading when my tax retun comes in next year), an ATI Radeon 9600 Pro vid card (ditto above), and 512M of RAM; I could play the "Lost Coast" map Valve released to showcase their HDR capability.
So I'd say if you can play HL2, you'll be able to run Oblivion. Maybe not at 1024x768, and maybe not screamingly fast, but you should be able to playably run it.
