Get Ready Guys...the Anti Gaming onslaught is coming again
Edited on Sat Aug-12-06 07:47 PM by YOY
That's right, Rockstar's Bully is not coming out until October, but already critics are lineing up to take potshots at it and all games regardless of the rating put on it.

I can only assume some Mr. Benchley 'twiddling joysticks' comments will be coming up...

1. LOL....not again

I've never seen a DUer filled with so much hate and so many personal insults. You try to politely debate Mr. Benchley with reasoned argument, and all he (or she) does is throw back insults. I can't believe that person isn't banned yet. He was a big time Lieberman supporter, and I haven't seen him since Lieberman lost - so maybe he went away.

2. Oh, I've seen him
He popped on board for a Lebanon/Israel discussion. Nothing too off the wall out of him.

I forget who said it, but I too am pretty sure that he is really Hilary Clinton incognito!

Even if he left, ever since one rather horrible recent even, we've gained a whole new crop of asshats.

5. He's still here and active.
And no more reasoned or polite.

Did you see the thread posted in tribute to him in GD, absolutely licking his ass in praising his rudeness? Of course, no one could respond in disagreement without breaking the rules.

8. What? Who? Where? Why?
People praising Benchley? but...but...but... the asswipe couldn't hold a debate if his hands were superglued to a podium.

Let me at that thread.

6. I just read the article.
Why are so many people trying to ban the game when no one is really certain what it's about yet?

7. Because they're reactionary f***wads
Edited on Sun Aug-13-06 10:45 PM by YOY
or the lawyers that slaver away at serving reactionary f***wads...

I have heard one such lawyer bring up Columbine and how this 'racist' (one pic of a white kid giving a black kid a swirly...yeah regular clan material) game would multiply school violence a hundredfold. I thought bowling for Columbine pretty much answered why they did what they did and what parts of society contributed to the event.

12. Why are people protesting this game?
It seems the only reason people are upset is that it was made by Rockstar.

I seriously doubt this game is going to really push the envelope, sure there are going to be some fist fights and some cruel pranks but from what I can see it does not look like it goes way over the top.

I guess we will have to wait and see when the game is actually released, but this looks like another case of people complaining about something they know nothing about.

14. Comparisons to Columbine and trumped up research
claiming video games cause violence in kids. (I want one done to see how competing in violent sports can cause the same.)

17. Of course THIS MAN is leading the 'crusade'
Jack Thompson: A real Talibornagain Cocksmoking Asswipe

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_Thompson_%28attorney%29

From Wikipedea:

(Snip)

Thompson’s campaign for prosecutor was reportedly also prompted by rumors that Reno was a lesbian. He gave Reno a letter at a campaign event requesting that she check a box to indicate whether she was homosexual, bisexual, or heterosexual. Thompson said that Reno then put her hand on his shoulder and responded, “I’m only interested in virile men. That’s why I’m not attracted to you.”<8> He filed a police report accusing her of battery for touching him. In response, Reno asked Florida governor Bob Martinez to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate.<9> The special prosecutor rejected the charge and concluded that Thompson did it as “a political ploy.” Reno was ultimately re-elected with 69% of the vote. Thompson repeated allegations that Reno was a lesbian when she was nominated as U.S. Attorney General, leading one of her supporters, lieutenant governor Buddy MacKay, to dismiss him as a “kook.”<8>

23. Just got the latest Game Informer with "Bully" on the cover
and after reading about the game, all I can say is: Rockstar better port it to the 360! Right now it's billed as a PS2 exclusive. And while PS2's are relatively cheap, I'm more than relatively broke right now, so I won't be picking one up anytime soon...

Seriously, I think the faulty logic behind the uproar goes something like this:

"Rockstar is notorious for violent GTA games and there's that hot coffee sex thing. Then, Rockstar is putting out a game called Bully. Therefore, this game must be about being a bully and beating up kids for fun."

Which of course is not what the game is about at all.

I'll be honest. GTA, played it once. didn't really turn me on that much. but reading about how this game is played and the really careful thought put into it, it's become one of my top three anticipated games.

here's an overview from the game's website:

" The Rockstar tradition of groundbreaking, original gameplay and humorous tongue-in-cheek storytelling invades an entirely new setting: the schoolyard.

As a mischievous schoolboy, you’ll stand up to bullies, get picked on by teachers, play pranks, win or lose the girl, and ultimately learn to navigate the obstacles of the worst school around, Bullworth Academy - a corrupt and crumbling prep school with an uptight facade.

The story follows Jimmy Hopkins, a teenager who’s been expelled from every school he’s ever attended. Left to fend for himself after his mother abandons him at Bullworth to go on her fifth honeymoon, Jimmy has a whole year at Bullworth ahead of him, working his way up the social ladder of this demented institution of supposed learning, standing up for what he thinks is right and taking on the liars, cheats and snobs who are the most popular members of the student body and faculty. If Jimmy can survive the school year and outsmart his rivals, he could rule the school."
