Yes, the long awaited remake is finally here! Get it folks, get it now.
It is brilliantly done. It recaptures the simplicity and charm of the original completely while introducing beautiful visuals and music.
The sea battles are very similar in how they unfold but now your ships can undergo upgrades at the shipwright providing (among other things) different types of cannon shot.
You just have to see the sword dueling to believe it. Same general idea - strike high, strike middle, strike low, and parry. But now you can duck and jump while fighting! The animation is terrific.
There are tons and tons of special missions you can go on for the different nations. Escorting new governors to different cities, delivering peace treaties, and of course capturing different pirates. I've only been playing for an hour.
You can still court the governor's daughter but now you must display your gentlemanly ability by going to a ball and dancing.
It is every bit as special as the original and if you were a fan and you don't have it yet... Just go buy it.

| 1. I was a huge fan of the original in the C-64 ... |
|
And I will eventually be shelling out some hard-earned cash for this version.

I agree it's wonderful. I can't get away from it!
It has the gameplay of the original with an improved graphic look and wonderful additions. (With the possible exception of the dancing. :) )

By far the hardest part of the game. I've taken to cheating by pausing the game after each hand signal, it's the only way I can get through the dancing.

but my onscreen keypad-thing (sorry, no words tonight) lights up for each correct movement. I ignore her hand gestures and concentrate on that.

| 4. Wow! I had no idea this was even in the works |

That was my favorite pirate game ever (not that we have a great selection of decent ones to choose from).
I'm a sucker for Sid Meier stuff and pirates so I will definitely check this out.

I've given up on dancing, though - for whatever reason, when I get to the second half of the dance, the screen just goes choppy as hell, though I surpass all the required system requirements.

| 8. Dancing is the key to getting the good stuff, and you can master it |

I mastered dancing, even with a beautiful daughter on Swashbucker (which can get really hard). Look at her hands (not the keyboard hints -they're not there on Rogue or Swashbuckler either), get the dancing shoes, and realize the patterns.
There are like five or six patterns that they follow, and you'll learn to anticipate what's next. Also, with the dancing shoes, you can sorta mess up and not stumble.
Just keep dancing and you'll get it. Trust me - I thought I was never going to get it down either.
Dancing with beautiful daughters is key to getting the lost city maps.
Spoliers below: . . . .. . . ....
One small beef with this game is that it's always Mendoza and Raymondo you have to hunt down....dammit get some new names for the bad guys....I know that it's following the original, but it wouldn't have been that hard to implement.
Also, they got rid of the silver line (as far as I know), and after a while this game get very repetive (and it's real easy). However, I still had a lot of fun with it.
