| Play CCGs (collectible card games)? which ones? |
|
Me, used to play Magic waaay back (don't anymore). Was big into Legend of the 5 Rings for a while (again, retired).
I dabbled in collecting Heresy (my favorite artwork to date), Legend of the Burning Sands (love the characters, but never got a chance to play), and brushed lightly Star Trek (never got into it, but know my surprising share of the game), along with Shadowfist, Warlords, 7th Sea, Warhammer 40k, and Spycraft.
The only CCG i still play now, and probably my first love of all of the ones i got into is Vampire: the Eternal Struggle (fondly referred in circles as Jyhad, ahh Jyhad...). God, I love that game.
Always wanted to get into Mythos, but it was discontinued. Now i hear the new Call of Cthulhu CCG has come out and i am most intrigued.
Anyone here CCG? which ones? which do you still play? which are your favorites?

Classic Steve Jackson game. The cards came in a big sheet that you had to punch out.
Of more recent vintage: Munchkin, also Steve Jackson.

| 2. there was a CCG and a stand-alone tabletop Illuminati, which one? |
|
sounds like the tabletop. didn't get Illuminati booster packs and starter decks? both games were classic fun. in fact i think i like the tabletop more because it is quick pick up and play, less deck construction and trade.
ahh, who doesn't love Trekkies controlled by the Gnomes of Zurich :D what a great game. ever play the pen/paper RPG? i never got a chance to.

We had a communal Munchkin set at my HS, but somebody stole it. We took better care of our Lunch Money deck(s) and the Settlers of Catan game that someone had brought.

I don't do the CCG thing anymore, though. It just doesn't appeal to me for some reason.
On Edit: Anyone remember that awful TSR knockoff of M:tG? Spell-something or other? I still subscribed to Dragon Magazine at the time MtG came out and I remember all the hysterics that Magic was going to kill D&D. So TSR came out with a really bad knockoff of it.
They also tried to turn Dragonlance into some weird ass diceless card-based game...that bombed miserably too IIRC...

The butt of every joke!
I stopped too. It's clearly a racket. Every 3 months a new set comes out... there's no new cards anymore. Occasionally they hit on one good idea, and then milk it on a thousand cards over 3 expansions. At NO point will you have enough cards to be able to say "Ok! I'm good now."
