2. I predict another 'Pirates!' |
|
Yeah, it'll be *that* bad. Of course, it will sell a bazillion copies, so the next PC-version will be more like Pokemon than Civ2. :(

I personally thought that the PC-to-Xbox port of Pirates! was pretty good. I used it to hook several non-Civ fans on Sid Meier games in general, and now I'm slowly working on introducing them to Civ4 and SMAC.
I don't expect stunning depth from this new Civ game, but what can you expect from a console strategy game, really? When there are so few alternatives, the bar's set pretty low. :)

6. Played the demo. Wasn't all that impressed |

It's deep enough I think, but I really struggled with the console interface.
After over a decade of playing it on the PC it just felt like a lot of work playing it on console, and I was only managing a couple of cities. The thought of playing endgame that way didn't appeal to me.
I'll probably pick it up used at some point and try and make the adjustment.

The game certainly lacks the depth and breadth of CivIV for the PC, and some of the game mechanics seem a step backward to Civ III--but fuck me if I'm not still hooked to this damn game.
Any favorite civs so far? The German ability to auto-upgrade elite units is nastier than anything in the PC version, I think.

8. I won my first game playing as France with a World Bank win |
|
It's... just not the same for me. The games are just ridiculously short. With the way you burn through the game it just loses the epic feel of PC Civ. If they hadn't compressed it so badly for console attention spans it would be MUCH better.
And it really irritates me that (if you're not playing Germany) you can't upgrade units as they become obsolete.
I'll be trading it in towards Madden in another couple weeks.

9. I just hit 1000 on Civ:Rev achievements. |
|
Time to loan the game to a friend for a month until I'm no longer utterly sick of the sight of it. :)
Has anyone tried the multiplayer yet?
