Nice work, you two...but I think it's a hard sell to disprove the correlation between video game and real life violence just at this very moment. Why? Because the media is milking the Brow-Furrowing Concern over GTA4 for all its worth.

And milking that APA study of 2000 that's been ripped apart 10,000 times before.

6. I hate that stupid f***ing study. |

They never post the dissection of it...just the APA 2000 link with no secondary comments.

7. That's because they googled it ... |

... and probably never even read it fully, much less tried to put it in context.
This is anecdotal, but I'll share it anyway. I had an awful temper into my early 20's. I was never really violent toward living creatures, but I could play hell with a hammer and a sheet rock wall. I never got the therapy I needed for it then because I couldn't afford it and didn't know of any outlets to help me pay for it, but I did have games. Increasingly I turned to playing games when I was frustrated and felt that anger welling up inside me, not because I was intentionally trying to perform self-therapy as such, but because I knew I needed an outlet to express my frustration that wouldn't involve a lot of wall filler and paint later.
My temper has been in check for years now. Nothing sudden happened, but I began to realize over time that when the frustration came, directing it toward activities like games helped.
I will forever maintain that back in the day, being able to go home from work and indiscriminately blow pixels away on my screen saved the lives (or at least the shin bones) of many, many people I encountered on a daily basis. Castle Wolfenstein and Doom made me *less* violent.
And Baldur's Gate pretty much saved my life. During one particularly bad period of my life, I got so engrossed in that I literally forgot I wanted to die.

It's an easy scapegoat, just like books, television, movies, Rock and Roll, and Comic Books.

5. And they brought up that too |
|
but some people want to throw stones.
Then they ask why I wouldn't let my daughter play GTA4 if I think it has no effect.? Would you let a kid watch "hostel" or porn. It wouldn't kill her but I'd be explaining things as a good parent does afterwards.
You can "get it" in your pre-teens and teenage years...
