Got a PS-3 80 Gig Now what?

Marta and I picked it up 2 weeks ago. She is the gamer. I wanted the Blu-ray player. So tell me all about the system.

1. It is a great piece of hardware...
If you want some advice on software to pick up definitely get Metal Gear Solid 4 and Grand Theft Auto IV. Both games are not only great, but they feature a lot of social commentary. Metal Gear Solid IV places a lot of focus on private military contractors who are engaging in war for profit, while Grand Theft Auto IV is an all-out no holds barred satire of American society. Yes there are parts of GTAIV that will make you squirm, but it will make you think as you squirm. Even if you don't want to play, just being able to surf GTAs version of the internet and being able to watch GTA television, and listening to the in-game right-wing radio station makes the purchase worth it. The game attacks corporate America and the right-wing agenda in brilliant fashion, and I guarantee that any DUer could find many things in the game that will put a big smile on their face.

If you want some more family friendly options Ratchet & Clank Future is an incredible game with great graphics and very fun gameplay. You can download a demo for free off the PSN network if you want to give it a try, and there are two games available; Tools of Destruction and Quest for Booty. Both of them are great, but Tools of Destruction has way more stuff to do in it. The nice thing about Quest for Booty however is that it is still great and has graphics which are every bit as jaw dropping as those in Tools of Destruction, but it only costs $15.

If you enjoy racing games then Burnout Paradise is one of the best, and it has been getting a lot of really good free updates recently. If you want a game that will keep you busy for a long time then Oblivion is a great game with literally hundreds of hours of gameplay.

As far as non-gaming features go there are some very good internet features, and Blu-Ray of course. Make sure to check out Planet Earth on Blu-Ray, it is the most amazing thing I have ever seen on a television screen and even my mother who has been content with her thirteen inch standard definition television for years decided she wanted to go high def after seeing Planet Earth on Blu-Ray.

As far as things to look forward to Little Big Planet is coming in October, and is looking to be one of the most creative games ever created. It allows you to make your own platform game using tools so simple that anyone can design a game, but it also contains so many options that you can basically create virtually everything you would ever want to create. I myself am planning to make the Jesus goes to Republicanland video game, which will involve Jesus visiting everywhere from Iraq's oil fields to Larry Craig's bathroom. I imagine that considering the game comes out just a couple weeks before the election you will be creating some very funny and creative levels.

2. Assassin's Creed. Get it.
A more gorgeous game there isn't.

3. Now, you wait for LittleBigPlanet.
Which looks like the most awesome thing ever, from where I'm sitting.

Also, if you can find "Folklore" on the cheap, it's worth it. A fun, interesting adventure/RPG-type game, without the time sink or involvedness that a typical RPG requires.
