Like you say, not the best (not really an RTS fan anyways), but it's free and it doesn't suck, so it'll kill some time. :)

How nice of them. I guess C&C3 and Red Alert 2 made these obsolete.

I wonder if it's possible to mod these in any way....

For those not in the know, these games at the link are quite old, so they will run on just about every PC out there. I'm sure they'll run in WINE under linux as well. If you've never played a Command & Conquer game, these are good places to start.

Note that Command & Conquer 3 has significantly higher requirements due to it being a much more recent 3D game. These ones at the link aren't 3D, and you could probably run them on a laptop sans DirectX.
