If I ever have to hear that insipid "USS Enterprise Vs. The Death Star" argument again, I'm hanging up my geek hat and becoming an insurance seller.

| 3. It depends on how well they can aim the main gun on The Death Star. |
|
If Enterprise can come around BEHIND The Death Star...
I can't believe I was about to waste time on this.

the Death Star would deploy its 7,000 tie fighters, and several star destroyers...

| 7. the question, of course |
|
rests on the differences between "blasters" and "phasers", and the shields used. Federation ships are known to be able to recalibrate their shields to deal with different forms of attack.

if the shields are equally effective in terms of what kind of weapon is used, then the Death Star wins, hands down. They just have too much firepower, and the additional benefit of tie fighters attacking from all sides.
Plus, how long is the DS's rotation? Even if the Enterprise starts out at the rear, it's unlikely they could cause serious enough damage before the station rotated; a whole super star destroyer crashed into it during RotJ, with little overall effect. If the enterprise has to deal with the DS's turbolasers, plus tie fighters and star destroyers, even assuming their shields worked against imperial weapons, would they last long? How often in Star Trek do their shields get drained by extensive combat
Now, Enterprise VS Star Destroyer, that's a better match :D
(though you still have tie fighters there, as well)
NERD POWER!!!

how long did the Empire ever have a Death Star, anyway? Is that a legit thing to worry about? It seems they only kept them for a few months, total.
I don't see the Federation taking out a Death Star, but I could definitely see them taking out a Star Destroyer. I'm not that up on Federation tech, but didn't they have both larger Dreadnoughts and much smaller and more maneuverable ships that, while not equivalent to a TIE fighter, would open things up a bit?
Now that I think about it, the Federation could use a Genesis device on the Death Star.

| 10. All they have to do is let Captain Kirk talk to The Death Star's computer. |
|
He'll convince it to self-destruct.
Or to fall in love with him.
Either way, Enterprise wins.

I doubt the federation could get a large enough battle fleet to counter anything that empire (or even the rebels) could throw at them. After all, a 4000+ year old galactic entity likely has a pretty deep well of military ships; there are thousands of inhabited systems in the republic/empire.
I freely admit that I am a biased Star Wars geek :D

is sit there and wait for the Enterprise to blow itself up with one of its countless holodeck/computer/transporter/engine malfunctions.

and an unlimited energy supply, they don't even need seat belts. They could set up compensatory gravity fields in the chairs.
