| Any HS families out there with two working partners? |
|
I have to work full time, but my partner is part-time, and we're wondering how possibly to swing a hs situation for our daughter, who's entering 2nd grade in a world that won't tolerate her attitude and approach to life.
Do any of you have two working people, and how do you do it? We're most worried about short-changing her and not getting enough socialization. I'm guessing most hs families around here do it for fundamental reasons. In fact, both local organizations are faith-based.
Thanks. Needless to say, we're dreading the first day this week, even though it's a new Montessori charter situation. Yikes.

Mr GoG and I both work. He teaches guitar from mid-afternoon through the evening, and I'm a freelance violinist with an irregular schedule. Since Mr GoG is home in the mornings, he takes care of math lessons then. We include daily piano practice as part of the "school" schedule; so sometimes he supervises this practice as well.
I sporadically have morning rehearsals and/or evening gigs; but my afternoons are usually free to devote to school and our son's other activities. Sometimes I won't accept work if it seems like it will interfere with his schedule too much. My mother lives nearby, and is often able to help out if a job is just too good to turn down. His former kindergarten teacher has helped us out on many occasions as well, though her schedule no longer permits her to do so, unfortunately.
Maybe you should consider starting a new organization in your area...one that makes a point of non-affiliation with religious or political groups. You could begin as a simple Yahoo Group and organize via the message board.
Hope things are going well!
