| Traditional or Reform Math? |
|
Does anyone have any opinions? My oldest will be 5 in October. I have been looking at the Reform Math, namely: Everyday Math, and Investigations in Number, Data, and Space. I just don't know if I should go with a Traditional Math curriculum. I also heard that Math U See is good.
Right now my son can count by ones. Count by 10's. Do simple addition/subtraction. He knows more/less, bigger/smaller, things like that.
What worked for you?
Thanks!

From what I read about "reformed math" just now - run like hell...... lol
"Traditional" isn't much better.
We had success using a combination of "traditional math problems" and manipulatives.
I know a lot of people like Math U See - but I've not seen it (pun intended) so I couldn't really speak to that.
Personally, I hate Saxon and so does my older son - but I know a lot of people who absolutely love it.
I think it all really depends on what kind of "learner" your son is, though.

I appreciate your opinion :-)
I hate that there is such an overwhelming amount of "stuff" out there. My head starts to spin just looking at it all.

| 3. don't it just, though. |

lol.....
I think 5 is still a good age for just "playing math" together - more like games - instead of making it a 'lesson' thing.

We went through Saxon (too slow-moving), Miquon, Singapore, and now finally Math U See. We've been really happy with it. My daughter is more of a visual learner, so she just watches the dvd lesson, then she usually does most of her work without help from me. She's 8. Good luck finding one that's right for your child.
